Engineering of body and exterior components
Many exterior components are now made of plastics or as plastic/metal hybrid components. The main reasons for this are cost-effective production and the reduction of vehicle mass (lightweight construction). In addition to the requirements of the vehicle designers, functional aspects as well as all questions concerning efficient production and safe assembly must be taken into account in the development of these exterior components.
M.TEC combines material- and process-oriented engineering with the early use of the necessary calculation and simulation tools. This includes structural analysis for static and dynamic loads (crash) as well as the simulation of flow processes (CFD) and the manufacturing process (e.g. filling simulation). This is the only way to combine the various aspects into a coherent overall concept and to be able to provide timely answers to questions such as pedestrian protection.

Innovation in exterior engineering
Future vehicle generations require new and innovative solutions for exterior components. New assistance systems for autonomous or semi-autonomous cars are a driver for this development, as is the increasing number of hybrid and electric vehicles. The use of different technologies such as camera and radar systems and infrared technology is changing the requirements for component design and the materials used, in some cases radically. The increasing electrification of vehicles leads to changes in the entire vehicle structure. Many vehicle areas can or must be completely redesigned.
M.TEC is a source of inspiration and ideas for new automotive exterior components. We develop lightweight construction solutions, integrate components for driver assistance systems, investigate the use of alternative production methods and realize lighting effects in exterior components.
